Edenbridge were not on their game this weekend, not helped by six dropouts on the morning of the match. Despite scoring 6 tries, 'Bridge could not muster up enough for the win. With Lee Roberts not on form from the tee, it was goal kicking that proved to be the difference. With Sheppey slotting both a drop goal and a penalty to win the game. In truth, Edenbridge never deserved to win this game and with Sheppey enduring 6 cards at various stages this really should have been a win for Edenbridge had they played with their usual tempo and intensity.
'Bridge only really played properly for the final 5 minutes and scored two late tries to nearly maintain their unbeaten record but ultimately, a poor first 75 minutes with an apparent belief that a score was achievable from every play was to be the away team's demise. In that final five minutes, they scored twice via Jamie Bennett and Lewis Bowen (who had also opened the visitor's scoring in the first half) but it was not to be enough.
A dejected and despondent 'Bridge traipsed from the field knowing no one had done themselves proud in the preceding 80 minutes. Many thanks however to Sheppey who were great hosts and despite the cards provided a stern and fair opposition. We look forward to welcoming you to the Rec later in the season.
A match to be forgotten and 'Bridge know they can do much better. Next weekend the Seniors travel again, this time to New Ash Green for a game at Punch Bowl.
