OTs, playing at least 2 league below their level were able to run riot against a committed Edenbridge side on Saturday. ‘Bridge knew from the outset that back would be to the wall with OTs conceding a solitary penalty in their three opening games. Drubbings against Aylesford, TJs and Cranbrook meant ‘Bridge went into the game as massive underdogs but the men in black and gold did themselves proud.
Despite leaking tries to a very quick and flashy set of backs Edenbridge dug in and played to their strengths. OTs had difficulty containing the rolling pod system rehearsed at the previous training session and it was this tactic that eventually led to the try. A great break by Bobby Weaver from a re-start set up Edenbridge in the OTs 22. A few more drives and Andy Hough spun the ball out to the blind side to put Dom Mitchell over for the first try against OTs this season.
In the second half, with both kickers injured, Alex Adams stepped up to add a further 3 points against the visitors with a confidently struck penalty. In the end though, OTs’ fitness and pace proved to be too much for Edenbridge to handle. Despite valiant last ditch defending from man of the match Chris Norris at fullback, the final whistle went with OTs running in another try.
