Edenbridge claimed a degree of pride from Saturday’s performance over Cranbrook II. Putting a full XV out at the Rec for the first time since Christmas, ‘Bridge ran riot with a controlled and assured performance. With any spoils from the league out of sight, Saturday’s display produced 7 tries and hopefully a lot of confidence with players being reminded that Edenbridge can do something with the ball in hand.
The aimless kicking which has dogged Edenbridge’s season was put to bed and instead a full back line took ball in hand and ran more or less everything. Reiss Caskey looked assured at fullback with the greater space afforded to him allowed him to run some great lines. Bobby Weaver, back after injury also added to the performance in his usual style collecting a try for himself along with 4 conversions.
The success was built upon solid ball being won by the outstanding Edenbridge pack, not least due to the efforts of Will Kennedy who dominated at the scrum, pushing Cranbrook off all but 4 of their own put ins, as well as controlling the breakdown against what at times was fierce counter-rucking from the visitors. This ball was fed out to the dangerous backs by Lee Roberts who appeared at scrumhalf this week and did a very capable job.
Tries also came for Chris Norris (2), Ross (2), Jez Edmonds and Richard Cain scoring his first try in an Edenbridge shirt. Final score: Edenbridge 43 – Cranbrook 10
With training commitment picking up in recent weeks things are looking slightly better for Edenbridge after what has been a dour season and continued efforts will be required before the season is out to ensure that next year begins on a high.
