Edenbridge produced a dominant display to secure their second place in the league. TJs IV came to the Rec sitting just behind ‘Bridge. Sticking to a simple game plan of winning the physical battle at the breakdown, the Black and Golds set about their task with relish. Physicality at the break down and a strong rush defence led by man of the match Rory Wallis at 12 put TJs under pressure and didn’t give them an opportunity to get into the game.
First half tries from Sam Batchelor, Phil Cox, Daniel Filewood, Sam Perry and Dave Copeland (having already had one disallowed)coupled with 3 conversions from Sam Perry gave ‘Bridge a commanding 31-0 lead at half time.
The second half was a somewhat scrappier affair with ‘Bridge falling into old habits of trying to do too much too soon with the ball. Still the tries came though with a one each from Daniel Filewood and Phil Cox (converted). Sam Perry opened the scoring in the second with a penalty which helped to re-settle the rather urgent home side.
Next week Edenbridge travel to Maidstone III who have sat at the top of the league table for large parts of the season. The side should be buoyed by 4 shut outs in a row now and if other results go our way, ‘Bridge could be top for Christmas and the close of the first half of the league.
