Leicester Tigers – Tigers Challenge at Bognor Regis – 6th / 7th April by Gaynor Lawson

This weekend saw a mixed Under 9 Mini team, romp home to success at the Tigers Challenge rugby tournament. The festival is the biggest youth rugby festival of its kind in the UK and whilst also offering great rugby, is great fun for all the players, so Edenbridge RFC and Old Caterhamians RFC, joined forces to form a team of eager 8 and 9 year olds to take on some of the best Under 9 teams across the country.
Held across the weekend, with 6 matches to play, the boys managed to win 4 crucial matches against some very tough opposition from Crawley, Bargoed (twice), Bognor and then drew with Old Albanians (twice). Under 9s rugby is the first year of contact and so amongst some great moments of try scoring, there were some crunching tackles made. The teamwork and camaraderie was fantastic, seeing as the two clubs had only trained together on a couple occasions over the season. The side were then presented their medals and trophy by Tigers legend, Matt Tait and rising star, Jordan Olowofela from the Leicester Tigers Development Squad.

Edenbridge RFC Under 9’s team have a “come and try it” session on Sunday 14th April from 10am till 12 noon. Please give Gaynor Lawson a call if you’d like to pop along and play – 07775 621849
